Yup, i have to agree with you. Although ffdshow is perfectly for me, the reason we are trying/testing so many builds now, is that people are getting more interested, especially in x264.
If you look at the changes at http://cia.navi.cx/stats/project/ffdshow Thats the reason why there are so many releases, we need tests for many feedback, to give to the ffdshow developers.
Follow http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=98600 closely and see why we are "struggling" with what versions to put online. Finding the best ratio between very needed speed and stability is not so easy as it sounds.
Conclusion
The ffdshow source is quite messy and under constant development.
General tip
If it works for you, stick with it! Thats all it has to do, meet your needs. If you want to test, read doom9 forum threads, do your own testing and post the results!
